rlex Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 Like every year, Auto Plus unveils the ranking of the most stolen cars in France. In 2021, the DS 7 Crossback takes the lead. It is a real ritual, now essential at the beginning of each year. 2021 is obviously no exception, while our colleagues from Auto-Plus have just unveiled the ranking of the most stolen models in France in recent months. What if the Coronavirus epidemichas largely contributed to slowing down thefts, some 330 vehicles have been stolen every day across the country over the past year. A figure down 13% compared to 2019, which is undoubtedly explained by the various health measures, between the two confinements and the long period of curfew which is still ongoing. The opportunities to steal cars are therefore fewer for thugs, while motorists go out less, therefore no longer leaving their vehicle in public parking lots. Nevertheless, it is always advisable to take precautions, especially if you are in possession of certain models attracting particularly covetousness. We were already telling you about it a few months ago, the DS 7 Crossback is currently very po[CENSORED]r with thieves, to the point of reaching 1st place in the 2021 ranking. Rather surprisingly, the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, they are placed respectively in 15 and 31st position. Also beware if you are the proud owner of a Renault Mégane RS, a very attractive car for thieves, as is its rival, the Volkswagen Golf GTi . Sports cars remain in great demand, especially German models, with the Audi S4 and RS 4 in particular. But overall, no category is spared, while this list includes models ranging from the Peugeot 208 the Range Rover Evoque via the Renault Laguna or the Fiat 500 X. To achieve this classification, our colleagues carried out a large-scale survey by contacting all the insurers, in order to obtain the data relating to the theft declarations and thus determine the risks. Very po[CENSORED]r mouse-jacking As our colleagues point out, key hacking, also known as mouse-jacking, is currently the most widespread method, while 75% of thieves use the latter. It is indeed very easy to equip yourself with a box allowing you to hack your vehicle and thus open and start it in the blink of an eye, without infringement. As our colleagues point out, it would then take no more than three short minutes for a thief to steal a car using this method, while some cars only require about thirty seconds. This is particularly the case with the DS 3. Crossback, which suffers from a faulty keyless entry system. But the main problem is still compensation for the victim, while most insurance companies refuse the latter if there is no trace of an offense. Worse still, some companies even go so far as to request reimbursement from their customer if there is no proof of the theft once the vehicle has been found. A real double penalty! If your vehicle appears on this list, or if you simply want to put the odds in your favor, there are several solutions. You can in particular buy a specific anti mouse-jacking box, fixed to the OBD socket of your car. Also, remember to store your car key in a metal case or aluminum foil when you get home, as thieves can then use the key's signal even through the walls of your home. Finally, do not neglect the good old method of the steering wheel lock.
