SougarLord Posted February 20, 2021 Share Posted February 20, 2021 Fittipaldi, who raced his first two major prizes in the top flight last December in Sakir and Abu Dhabi, replacing the injured Romain Grosjean, will return to support the team in 2021 extending his relationship with the US team to a third season. Fittipaldi, 24, attended most of the Formula 1 dates in 2020 in his role as test driver and reserve. The Miami-born Brazilian was called into action following Romain Grosjean's accident and subsequent injuries at the Bahrain Grand Prix. He made his debut behind the wheel of the VF-20 at the Sakir Grand Prix, completing his first race and finishing all 87 laps in 17th place. A week later he participated in the season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit, the Grand Abu Dhabi Prize; Fittipaldi ran the full distance again to complete his second grand prix in 19th place. Before competing for Haas F1 Team, Fittipaldi had tested the VF-18 and VF-19 in 2018 and 2019. The grandson of two-time Formula 1 world champion and two-time Indy 500 winner, Emerson Fittipaldi, has four titles ( including the 3.5 Formula V8 Championship and Formula Renault) and various IndyCar Series competitions. The first round of the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship, the Bahrain Grand Prix, will be held from March 26 to 28. Fittipaldi will attend in support of Haas F1 team newcomers Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher, both drivers who will debut that weekend.
