Launched in 2017 and modernized at the end of 2020, the Kona is tasted in gasoline, diesel, hybrid and electric. Which version to choose? Auto Moto guides you.

In terms of mechanics, what are your preferences? It doesn't matter for the Kona, which necessarily meets your expectations! Archetypal of the vehicle “à la carte”, the original small Korean SUV is tasted in gasoline and diesel , with fully electrified mechanics, as well as in hybrid and 100% electric . It can also take advantage of a 4 × 4 transmission.

Rival potential of Renault Captur , Peugeot 2008 , Nissan Juke , Ford Puma and Jeep Renegade , this 4.21 meter long model is produced in Korea as well as in Europe, in the Czech Republic . It rests on a platform taken from the Rio and lengthened by 2 cm at the wheelbase.

With a rather conventional but ergonomic and pleasant presentation, the Korean however composes with any rear roominess, especially in legroom. The trunk does not show itself either, not very generous but, once folded down, the 60/40 files spare a vast flat floor.

The best-selling Hyundai in France in 2020, this small SUV systematically benefits from an extended warranty over five years, unlimited mileage.

Hyundai Kona: the equipment
The basic version, called Initia , is only offered on the Kona Hybrid, starting at € 27,000. In terms of safety, it has six airbags, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection and tire pressure control.
It also includes active maintenance in the lane, automatic switching on of the headlights, automatic switching from high beam to low beam and Isofix mounts on the outboard rear seats.

This finish also integrates the automatic air conditioning, the reversing camera , the driving programs, the cruise control, the heated mirrors, the height-adjustable driver's seat, the height and depth adjustable steering wheel and the four electric windows.

This Kona also benefits from 60/40 folding backrests, a 12V socket and a USB port on the front, an 8-inch touch screen compatible with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto and Bluetooth. The alarm, the 16-inch alloy wheels and the roof rails complete the equipment.

The second level of finish , which serves as an entry level for gasoline, diesel and electric versions, is called Intuitive (from € 24,050).
It adds the rain sensor, dark tinted rear windows, digital instrumentation on a 10.25-inch panel, a USB port in the rear and chaplains on the backs of the front seats.

It also has 17-inch alloy wheels (except Hybrid), driver's seat lumbar adjustment, height-adjustable right front seat, reversing radars and electrically folding mirrors.

A Business version is also available to professional customers, starting at € 24,700. It is based on the Intuitive version, and has in addition to a GPS Europe, the multimedia interface on 10.25 inch screen, a premium audio system, connected services Bluelink and Hyundai Live, but is based on rims 16 inches.
In this finish, the Kona Electric (€ 42,900) also has heated front seats and an 11 kW three-phase on-board charger.

Hyundai Kona

The version called Creative (from € 26,400) stands out with a black lacquered grille, head-up display, front and rear LED lights.
It includes panel recognition, the electrochromatic interior rear-view mirror, “hands-free” access / starting, smartphone charging by induction, the Krell premium audio system and the Europe GPS.

The high finish, called Executive (from € 28,450) , adds to all this the leather upholstery, the heated and electrically adjustable front seats, the adaptive cruise control (on DCT-7 only), the front parking radars , 18-inch rims and an acoustic windshield.
Safety benefits too, with autonomous emergency braking with cyclist detection, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic control, to make maneuvering safer.

Our advice: the Intuitive version has a good price / equipment ratio. The Creative is also worth a look, especially for the keyless entry / start and heads-up display.

Hyundai Kona: in gasoline
One engine, one version. With a “spark plug” unit, the Kona can only be tasted in 1.0 T-GDi 120 hp (6 HP, chain distribution), with a six-speed manual gearbox. This three-cylinder engine, also present under the hood of the new i20 , benefits from a 48V system with an alternator-starter.

This technology stores kinetic energy in certain driving phases and can evolve into “freewheels” at certain times. The system, made up of a tiny 0.46 kWh battery , can also deliver up to an additional 10 kW to the front wheels when restarting.

But there is no question of driving in 100% electric mode, the system is not capable of it. The interest? Slightly reduce consumption. This engine still absorbs, on average, just over 6 l / 100 km. It is pleasant but is satisfied with any accelerations.
