Fernando Alonso has been run over while training on a bicycle near his home in Lugano (Switzerland), according to La Gazzetta dello Sport and later confirmed by the Alpine team. As this newspaper has been able to confirm, the accident occurred in the early afternoon when a car improperly accessed a roundabout and rammed the Asturian, who was immediately transferred to a hospital.

The first scans have detected damage to the mouth and some teeth, so the doctors advised a transfer to Bern, where on Friday they will continue with tests to confirm if he suffers a broken jaw. A possibility that keeps Alpine bosses uneasy, since it would condition the pilot's preseason.

The team issued a statement on its social networks confirming the news. "Fernando Alonso is conscious and well. He is waiting for the new medical tests that he will undergo tomorrow."

This newspaper has learned that Fernando Alonso is calm, accompanied by his partner, the model Linda Morselli, and responding by WhatsApp to his colleagues, family and friends, such as the Italian Flavio Briatore.

This accident could compromise the presence of the Spanish at the start of the World Cup, on March 28 in Bahrain. The race at the Sakhir circuit would mark Alonso's return to F1, after two seasons where he focused on the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500.

Alonso's passion for cycling dates back to his beginnings in the Gran Circo and since then he has only increased, until he became a key element in his physical preparation. This same winter he redoubled his demanding schedule with daily sessions of more than 80 km.

MARCH 12 IN BAHRAIN

Alonso's misfortune occurred on the same day that the French team started the A521 for the first time, which it will put on track on March 12 in the first day of official tests in Bahrain. A date marked in red by Alonso, who could only get on the car for a day and a half, according to FIA regulations.

The ignition of the engine at the Enstone factory is an important step for the team led by Davide Brivio, which next season should fight for third place in the Constructors' World Championship, in a contest with Ferrari, Aston Martin and McLaren.
