40 Million Motorists allows you to report any illegal speed bumps you pass through a brand new online platform.

After attacking Anne Hidalgo's anti-car policy and questioning the President on car-related expenses, the 40 million motorists association decided at the start of the year to fight illegal speed bumps. . An approach that had already started last November, when the organization had launched a petition to challenge the public authorities on this recurring problem on our roads. And for good reason, according to a study carried out in 2013 by Auto Plus, one in three retarders is not up to standard, causing damage to vehicles. We remember that in 2017, a Ferrari owner was able to be compensated after having damaged his vehicle on a too high speed bump. But if this affair had caused a great stir, very few municipalities have taken matters into their own hands by bringing the sleeping gendarmes up to standards. 40 million motorists therefore wish to question them on the situation, and then invite all drivers to report illegal speed bumps they pass via an online platform .

The goal ? Create an infrastructure map of France that does not meet standards, and thus assert the rights of automobiles. At the end of this campaign, it will then be published and sent to the public authorities in order to raise their awareness. Pierre Chasseray, the general delegate of the association nevertheless underlines that "  we do not wish to enter into confrontation with the municipalities […] Our goal is to open the discussion and to find together adapted solutions for the good of all  ". 40 million motorists stresses that these illegal infrastructures would constitute a noise nuisance for residents, and would also be the cause of accidents. A few weeks ago, three associationshad decided to open a judicial inquiry to remove these speed bumps, sometimes causing serious bodily accidents. The lawyers in charge of the case recalled the story of a biker having fallen on a Berlin cushion located on a slope, and therefore very difficult to see and anticipate.

What is an illegal retarder?
So, how do you recognize a retarder that does not meet the standards? To help you, 40 million motorists have published a small guide , allowing you to navigate better, but rest assured, it's quite simple. When it comes to Berlin cushions, there is no rule in terms of size, but most are between 6 and 7 centimeters high. Moreover, their installation is prohibited in certain cases, in particular on lanes with a slope greater than 6% or on carriageways comprising more than one traffic lane per direction. For their part, the backs of donkeysare much more regulated, since their height should not exceed 15 centimeters, although 10 centimeters are recommended. In addition, these must be visible to users day and night and be the subject of specific road signs, as specified by the association. If you come across an infrastructure that does not comply with these rules, all you have to do is report it, using the form available online.
