Four years after its launch, the BMW M5 completes its range with a new CS version, which gains around ten horsepower, among the many improvements.

This is the end of a suspense that had lasted for several weeks already. After a cleverly orchestrated teasing campaign by the Bavarian brand, the BMW M5 CS is finally unveiled, allowing the family sports car to have a new string to its bow. After the standard version, launched in 2017 and supported by the Competition version, which arrived in 2018, here is the most radical variant, which therefore comes to cap a now complete range. The one whose name means Competition Sport is distinguished above all aesthetically, by a brand new aerodynamic kit ranging from plastic and carbon fiber, leaving the material visible for an even sportier style, while allowing the sportswoman to lower her weight by 70 kilos. Note also the golden grille outline, a treatment that is also found on the 20-inch forged rims and on the logos, bringing a touch of exclusivity to the whole. Inside, sportiness is the order of the day, with carbon bucket seats covered in leather, while the outline of the legendary Nürburgring north loop is embroidered on the headrest. Finally, the red stitching completes the set, as do the carbon fiber inserts.

But what will interest us above all is above all what is hidden under the hood of this BMW M5 CS, which unsurprisingly takes over the 4.4-liter V8 from the Competition version, but whose power this time was increased to 635 horsepower, which can be sent to the rear or to the four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic M gearbox . The result is a 0 to 100 km / h which can then be shot in just 3.0 seconds, for a maximum posted speed of 305 km / h. Taking advantage of the chassis of the M5 Competition, this CS version offers an even more efficient temperament, without denying comfort thanks to the use of the shock absorbers of the BMW M8 Gran Coupé. In addition, the family sports car, which can accommodate up to five people on board, also benefits from a specific exhaust system, the sound of which varies depending on the driving mode chosen. It is also possible to lower the noise level to the maximum via a button, a function particularly useful when you are driving in a residential area. Finally, fans of track trips will be delighted to learn that carbon ceramic brakes are standard equipment, weighing 23 kilograms less than the M5 Competition system, while offering better efficiency.
