Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Renault Clio, the subcompact that conquered the world, celebrates 30 years since its debut He made his debut in 1990 in Paris Five generations Over 15 million copies produced Renault Clio, the famous Hexagon subcompact model, turns 30 in 2020. It has reached the fifth generation and over 15 million copies sold in all this time. Renault 5 was the most po[CENSORED]r car in France so its replacement could not be outdone. And it wasn't either. In 1990, at the Paris Motor Show, Renault introduced the Clio to the world. With a remarkable exterior design, generous interior space and equipment such as central locking or electric front windows - premiere in the subcompact seed - Clio was named in 1991 Car of the Year in Europe. Seven years later, the Hexagon manufacturer opened a new chapter in the hit book Clio, with the launch of the second generation. The lines have been rounded, the cabin has become even more spacious and the suspension has been calibrated for comfort. In 2000, the Renault Clio II received restyled dashboard clocks and the right passenger airbag became standard. A year later, the French added new bumpers, xenon headlights (optional) and the range was enriched with the famous Clio V6: central engine and rear-wheel drive. The Clio III debuted in 2005 and came with innovations such as the card key, button start or active autopilot. At the same time, this version can boast something else: it was the first subcompact model to receive five stars at Euro NCAP. Plus, in 2006, the Clio III became the Car of the Year in Europe. For the fourth generation, the Clio has grown in size and the design has been completely changed. As a first, the Clio RS could be ordered for the first time with an automatic dual-clutch transmission. The current Clio iteration, the fifth, debuted last year in Geneva and carries on the success story of this model. The strengths of the subcompact model are the comfortable interior, the diversified range of engines and, of course, the trunk with a volume of 391 liters: the best in its class. In the last 30 years, the Renault Clio has become one of the most po[CENSORED]r cars on the road, with over 15 million units built since 1990. 3
