Yulimar.jpgQueen of the world, queen of Venezuela. Yulimar Rojas was awarded the Best Athlete of the Year 2020 award given by the country's Circle of Sports Journalists, uninterruptedly for 76 years.

 

The 25-year-old tripler became just the third Latin woman to win the World Athletics award for Best Athlete in the World.

Setting a new world record in Indoor Triple Jump, with a record 15 meters 43 centimeters, was worth to conquer the world of athletics and, of course, the specialized press in Venezuela.

The famous "Triple Jump Queen", who had already won the award three times, collected 100 of the 108 possible votes for first place and totaled 442 points.

She was seconded on the ballot: Ronald Acuña Jr. (as first runner-up), Oriana Altuve (second), Antonio Díaz (third), Yangel Herrera (fourth) and Rubén Limardo (fifth).

The president of the Circulo de Periodistas Deportivos de Venezuela, Hugo Chávez González, recognized the work that all Venezuelan athletes carried out in order to analyze the national tricolor, despite all the complications caused by the pandemic.

He insisted that, today more than ever, "sports journalism is still valid" and that is why this election has been possible with more than a hundred votes.

Other winners
This year's voting was limited to the athlete of the year only. However, the Board of Directors of the Circle of Sports Journalists made the decision to honor several figures who did not stop working despite the inactivity in sports.

In that sense, they announced the following winners.

Leaders of the year: Katiuska Santaella (Judo) - Eduardo Álvarez (Venezuelan Olympic Committee)
Sports entity of the year: COV - Ministry of Sports - IND
Coach of the Year: Ronaldo Sarti (Volleyball)
Professional Team of the Year: Cardenales de Lara
Selection of the year: Volleyball, the only team sport classified for the Olympic Games
As every year, each one of the winners represents Venezuelan talent and invites to cultivate more dreams in youth.
