That the SEAT Ateca has been one of the most successful cars of the past decade is no secret. The Spanish brand entered the crossover segment in 2016 with a compact model in which its philosophy was applied to its fingertips. Although it was a highly contested segment and had rivals such as the Nissan Qashqai, the public responded to the Ateca and quickly achieved very positive sales levels.

After marketing more than 300,000 units worldwide and becoming prominent in the total market (more than 66,000 copies), it was decided to update the SEAT Ateca. If it was already a model with remarkable qualities, the goal was to make it the best compact SUV, an ambitious goal and, at the same time, difficult to achieve. Although after having tried it first-hand, it must be said that it has arguments to approach that goal.

The design is not that it changed much, but it evolved enough so that the update is appreciated from the outside and it is also a language that is proven to be liked. The interior itself has had an exemplary renovation and is updated in the technological section. It is really complete in terms of connectivity options, so it will satisfy the most demanding users in this area. It was already quite spacious both in its cabin and in the trunk, so it has not been necessary to grow in this regard either.

Where it does grow slightly is in its mechanical range. Between its three and four cylinder engines there are more efficient options, available with both the manual transmission and the automatic DSG. The pity is that this generation will not be able to incorporate the new plug-in hybrid powertrains. In any case, at the level of dynamic behavior we continue to face one of the best in the segment. The chassis is a strong point of the SEAT Ateca, which stands out from other rivals for its balance and precision. Arguments to be king? Definitely…
