The American Dustin Johnson, number one in the world ranking, confirmed his presence at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, which will be played in the Riviera Maya from December 3 to 6, the organizers announced this Thursday.

"The Mayakoba family is excited to welcome Dustin Johnson to the Riviera Maya in less than a month; in a challenging year, we are honored to be the last official event on the PGA Tour calendar and happy to have Dustin", said Joe Mazzeo, tournament director.
 

Johnson, 36, has 24 victories as a professional including the United States Open in 2016. If he maintains his number one position on November 30, it will be the first to be in force at the top of the world ranking among the participants. .
 

A luxury participation

The best player of the moment joins other prestigious figures for Mayakoba, already confirmed, such as the defending champion, Brendon Todd, Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland, Cameron Champ and the Mexican Abraham Ancer, among others.

"This year's field is taking shape, we are excited to share with Dustin and the best players in the world the first-class hospitality offered by Mexico and the Riviera Maya. In the following days we will be announcing more player confirmations," added Mazzeo.

With a prize pool of $ 7.2 million, the Mayakoba Golf Classic in 2007 became the first PGA Tour event to be held outside of the United States and Canada.
 

Golf El Camaleón

The tournament is played annually and features 132 professional golfers participating in four rounds of stroke competition at El Camaleón Golf Club, designed by Greg Norman in Mayakoba, Riviera Maya-Cancun, Mexico.
 

Before Brendon Todd the champions were Fred Funk (2007), Brian Gay (2008), Mark Wilson (2009), Cameron Beckman (2010), Johnson Wagner (2011), John Huh (2012), Harris English (2013), Charley Hoffman (2014), Graeme McDowell (2015), Pat Perez (2016), Patton Kizzire (2017) and Matt Kuchar (2018).
