SougarLord
The death of co-driver Laura Salvo has shaken Spanish motorsport this Saturday. The Valencian woman, only 21 years old, has lost her life after a fatal accident in the first stage of the Vidreiro Rally, the fifth scoring round of the Portuguese national championship and second of the 2020 Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica. The event occurred in the Campos area de Lis, northwest of the town of Leiria. The Peugeot 208 Rally4 driven by the Balearic Miquel Socias was traveling at high speed through a wooded area when he lost control of the vehicle and left the asphalt. The car was hitting squarely on the right side, where Laura Salvo was, against one of the trees on the road. Before, in the same place, another Peugeot 208 had also crashed, that of the Portuguese Carlos Fernandes. In this case without consequences. The fans present in the stage helped to get the vehicle out, although the Portuguese could not continue in competition. Carlos Fernandes has seen a saida from the road crashing with a pinheiro, with the help of the public, he was withdrawn from the road. Depois not the same local or Spanish pilot Miquel Socias also had a saída de estrada batting no pinheiro and that would be fatal for his navigator. After the collision between Socias and Salvo, the assistance did not take long to arrive, since the accident occurred at the beginning of the section, and the co-pilot was immediately evacuated to an area where a helicopter was waiting for transfer to the hospital. Unfortunately, Laura Salvo did not get on the aircraft alive. A few stages later, after knowing the death, the organization of the rally, in agreement with the rest of the pilots, decided to cancel the test. It so happens that Laura's sister, María Salvo, was also competing in the rally, in her case as Sergi Francolí's co-driver. Despite her youth, Laura Salvo already had extensive experience as a co-pilot. This season he already had two overall victories, in the Bierzo Rally, to the right of Surhayen Pernía, and in the Ciudad de Jijona Rally, with Miquel Socias himself. Laura had just finished law school and was aiming to become a national police officer.
