According to the media, Flick has spoken several times by phone with Götze, who has ended his contract with Borussia Dortmund after neither side considered his renewal. Flick knows Götze well from his time as assistant coach on the German national team. The Bavarian coach has not hidden that he wants signings as he considers that his squad is too short after the departure of Thiago Alcántara, Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Perisic and Álvaro Odriozola. To that list, the name of the Spanish Javi Martínez could be added in the coming days. In the arrivals chapter, as far as outfield players are concerned, only Leroy Sané and Tanguy Nianzou Kouassi can be mentioned. Flick believes that the team may lack what is called "closet fund" throughout the season and therefore insists on the need to make signings. Götze would have the advantage of getting to the club for free, which is a point in his favor in times of the coronavirus. However, Götze's last years have not been good and that is one of the reasons why there is some skepticism among Bavarian officials. It is in favor of his signing that Flick managed to get two players who seemed to have passed their prime, such as Jerome Boateng and Thomas Müller, to regain their old form at Bayern. 1
