TOYOTA Y HONDA DESARROLLAN UN GENERADOR ELÉCTRICO PORTÁTIL PARA GARANTIZAR EL SUMINISTRO EN DESASTRES Y EMERGENCIAS

When a power grid is damaged during a natural disaster, such as a typhoon or a severe storm, it can cause an interruption in the supply of electricity to homes, evacuation centers or other critical facilities. To solve this situation, Toyota and Honda combine their technologies by creating this mobile electricity generation and supply unit and conducting real tests.

Thanks to its mobility, ‘Moving e’ can be used in specific emergency situations or natural disasters to provide electricity in affected areas, or more generally to provide electricity in an event, for example. During these real tests, both companies will be able to assess the real needs of potential beneficiaries and users, as well as the ease of use of the system.

The 'Moving e' mobile power generation and supply unit consists of a Toyota hydrogen fuel cell bus and charging station, a Honda Power Exporter 9000 portable electricity generator, two portable batteries - Honda LiB-AID E500 and Honda Mobile Power Pack (MPP) - and a Honda charge and discharge pack for MPP batteries.

The mobile unit, with all this equipment inside, will be able to move to the necessary place and supply electricity to that location. Thus, the batteries and generators will make it possible to extract electricity from the bus, serving as a power source for all types of electrical appliances.

Developed on the basis of the previous version of Toyota's hydrogen fuel cell bus (Toyota Fuel Cell Bus), the hydrogen bus with charging station equips twice as many high-pressure hydrogen tanks, significantly increasing the amount of hydrogen that it can transport, allowing a great capacity and performance for the generation and supply of electricity: 454 kWh with a power of 18kW.

In the event of a power outage due to a disaster, this large capacity enables the 'Moving e' to supply electricity in indoor areas, such as an evacuation center, as well as for electric vehicles, storing the electricity generated by the charging station in Honda Mobile Power Packs (MPP) and Honda LiB-AID E500 high capacity portable batteries.

The hydrogen bus with 'Moving e' charging station also incorporates a rest area inside, thus being able to serve as a place of support for people or workers in the event of disaster or emergency. Both companies will test the effectiveness of 'Moving e' through its use in various municipalities and companies that meet the necessary conditions and wish to collaborate with the project.

Start of tests

September 2020
