The FPF decided to modify article 13 of the League 1 regulations. There will only be one promotion from League 2.
The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) decided to make regulatory changes in League 1 and determined that four teams will no longer be relegated at the end of the 2020 campaign. The body also established that there will only be one promotion from League 2. In this way, the 2021 edition of the tournament of the highest division of Peruvian football will be contested by 18 teams.

The highest national football entity announced that article 13 of the first-class championship rules will be annulled, now establishing that “the clubs that occupy the last three positions of the accumulated position table at the end of League 1 2020 will be demoted and they will have to play League 2 2021 ”.

It was also reported that there will be no relegation in League 2 this year, where the 10 second division clubs that "have the right to participate for sporting merit" will compete. These are Alianza Atlético de Sullana, Juan Aurich, Molinos El Pirata, Sport Chavelines, Comerciantes Unidos, Unión Comercio, Unión Huaral, Coopsol, Deportivo Santos and Cultural Santa Rosa.
"Consequently, League 1 2021 will be played with 18 clubs and League 2 2021 with 12," reported the FPF in a document signed by Agustín Lozano.
