The po[CENSORED]tion of the Santo Domingo neighborhood in Garafía has been confined as a preventive measure against the evolution of the fire that has affected La Palma since Friday, and which has registered several outbreaks during the night.

The fire is in the consolidation phase of its perimeter without flames but with smoke. The fire remains with a perimeter of between 16 and 17 kilometers and occupying an area of around 1,200 hectares.

Likewise, the burned land is between 300 and 400 hectares of pine forest, grassland and scrubland, in addition to some affected homes without regretting human or animal losses.

The Emergency and Security Coordinating Center 112 has indicated that some residents of the aforementioned neighborhood have moved to the shelter installed in the sports center and meanwhile the po[CENSORED]tion must remain in the town until further notice from the authorities.

The Red Cross points out that three shelters have been set up where 14 volunteers from the organization operate and that accommodate 38 adults in Cuatro Caminos, seven in Los Llanos and 44 adults and a child in Santo Domingo.

During the night, teams from the Military Emergency Unit (UME) that continued to attack the fire have faced several outbreaks in their assigned work zone.

Likewise, the Tenerife firefighters who have traveled to help fight the fire on La Palma have faced a busy morning, as indicated on their Twitter account.

The troops worked on the Llano Negro-Santo Domingo highway and in the hamlets of the area, the most complicated part of fire and which is located on its right flank.

The Civil Guard is looking for a man wearing a red shirt, black shorts and a backpack who, apparently, has been seen setting fire in the coastal area of Las Tricias, in the municipality of Garafía.

The information was released this Sunday by the mayor of Garafía, Yeray Rodríguez, who has called on neighbors and workers in the area to immediately notify the Civil Guard or the Local Police if they observe this man.

 

The aerial media, which have already begun to unload, are now concentrated in the Llano Negro and Lomo de Las Palomas areas and the extinction operation is working on the consolidation of the perimeter.

The tasks of extinguishing the ground equipment have been concentrated in the last hours in the hot spots and in cooling tasks and since the early hours of this Sunday the discharges of the aerial means have been added.

In La Gomera, the Cabildo has reported that the Las Creces fire, which affects 1.5 hectares of the Garajonay National Park, has been stabilized tonight.

In that area, as a preventive measure, elderly people and people with mobility problems were evicted from Las Hayas, who have been transferred to the social center of the town.

The institution points out that the area stands out for being a steep terrain, with steep slopes and relatively low combustibility, and that the extinction works were favored in sections of the night due to the cessation of the gusts of wind, which at the beginning reached 60 kilometers per hour.

The president of the Canarian government, Ángel Víctor Torres, has called for "maximum precaution" after a night of "intense and fruitful work" to contain the fire on La Palma and the outbreak of La Gomera.

"With the dawn the aerial means go out. Moderate optimism in another day of very high heat and very low humidity in the Canary Islands. Maximum precaution", has indicated Torres in his Twitter account.
