However, the accumulated export figures show a decrease of 42.6 percent compared to the same period in 2019 when 102,759 units were exported. Let us remember that 2019 was a historic year in export.

Five months after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in Mexican territory, ANPACT announced that, last July, the wholesale sale of heavy vehicles reached a total of 2,563 units, compared to the 1,971 registered in June 2020, represents an increase of 30.0 percent. Finally, during the first seven months of the year, wholesale sales totaled 11,874 vehicles, 56.3 percent less when compared to the 27,170 units sold during 2019.

In this regard, Miguel Elizalde, executive president of ANPACT said that "the domestic market is still well below the levels prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, in 2019 the monthly average of wholesale sales was 3,324 monthly units, that is, we are still 30 percent down, in the context of a crisis deeper than that of 2009. "

According to the Basic Statistics of SCT 2019, Mexico has 800,000 motor vehicles with federal plates circulating on its streets and highways with an average of 18 years old. "If Mexico were to achieve its production potential, it would be possible simultaneously to halve the age of the fleet, lower emissions to less than half and generate double the number of jobs," said Elizalde.

"Renewing the fleet has a multiplier effect on social well-being, since motor transport serves all sectors and practically all the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in a transversal way," he continued.

"A new heavy vehicle reduces expenses, increases road safety and minimizes emissions. Well-being and reactivation in Mexico are based on heavy vehicles, so it is essential to implement measures that are reflected in the federation's budget for 2021 so that the reactivation don't just mean well, "concluded the business spokesperson.
