[Sport]US Open 2019 The US Open, like Trump: requires tennis players not to complain if they are infected

if the environment around the US Open was already rarefied - logically, given that it is going to be disputed in a very atypical way due to the coronavirus pandemic - the latest measure taken by the organization does not seem to precisely contribute to 'normalize it'. The USTA, the United States Tennis Federation, on which the tournament depends, will require the players who finally participate in it to sign a disclaimer to the organization, stating that they participate at their own risk. That would protect the USTA from claims for possible coronavirus infections, the aforementioned document affirms that the player assumes any risk and therefore the consequence that he may suffer for his participation in the tournament, including death, his own or anyone on his team. And it is also specified that this is true even if the circumstance was due to the negligence of the organization. The exemption covers Flushing Meadows, the USTA, New York City, the ATP, the WTA, or individuals participating in the event. Some tennis players have leaked the document through social networks.

This measure is analogous to that taken by Donald Trump, president of the United States, at the rally he gave in Tulsa last June. Trump, who has repeatedly spoken out against social distancing measures as a means of containing the pandemic, had attendees sign another disclaimer. At the aforementioned rally, no preventive measures were taken against the coronavirus, and the US Open already has several absences of leaders of the men's and women's circuits. The consequences of this measure remain to be seen. New York has been the area most affected so far by the coronavirus crisis in the United States, although now the epicenter has shifted to other states.
