The entire lot is made up of the Volksbus 17,210 models that have already entered the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic: all units are equipped with Marcopolo Torino bodies and protective barriers for the driver and collector Marcopolo BioSafe. The flexible and modular solution can be installed in different bodies, reducing the possibility of contagion by reducing the exposure of professionals to possible micro drops expelled during speech, cough or sneeze.

Over the last few years, VW Trucks and Buses has exported 568 Volksbus models that are part of the Regular Urban Passenger Transport Project (TURP), managed by the Asperbras Group, the manufacturer's official representative in that country for more than ten years. The dispatched fleet is already in action, distributed among 18 provinces of Angola, such as the capital Luanda, where most of the chassis are.

“Angola has an urban transport network that is still far from its needs. In Luanda, for example, there are 8 million inhabitants for just over 500 buses, covering only 15 percent of the province. That is why, even in times of pandemic, the negotiations continued, "says Geraldo Kulaif, director of the Asperbras Group.

"VW Trucks and Buses officially started exporting in 1985. Therefore, reaching our 35 years of international presence with businesses that promote quality and safety in transportation is a milestone in our history", says Leonardo Soloaga, director of Sales International VW Trucks and Buses.

The highest percentage of buses sent to Angola, which reaches 87 percent, satisfies the demand for public passenger transport, also considering benefits and free categories, such as students, youth, the elderly, people with reduced mobility and homeland veterans.

Another 8% are allocated to specific demands for passenger transport linked to ministries, hospitals and social projects. The remaining 5% is dedicated to the transportation of passengers to higher education institutions.

Kulaif says the choice of VW buses took into account the consolidation of the brand, the quality and robustness of its engine and the minimum needs for corrective maintenance. "The vehicles that are already in operation are highly praised and have done very well," says the director of Asperbras.
