The German police have found in the plot that excavates in the vicinity of Hannover a connection to the case of the British girl Madeleine McCann: a secret underground chamber. The information has been advanced by the Bild newspaper and private television RTL, citing sources of the investigation, although this point has not been confirmed by the Prosecutor's Office.

It has been confirmed that the plot in question was used by the main suspect in her disappearance and death, Christian Brückner, in 2017. It is currently abandoned, plagued by brush that the police have cleared to carry out their work.

According to testimonies of the residents of the colony of extra-urban gardens and orchards in which that land is located, Brückner used that place for two years. Permanent residence in these neighborhoods is not allowed by the authorities, although the construction of cabins for tools and, eventually, some overnight stays.

In declarations to local media, several neighbors assure that in the Brückner plot there was a cabin before it was abandoned and that he used to pass by with two dogs or to make a barbecue.

The main suspect in the Madeleine case, however, lived in a trailer located in an industrial area just 4 kilometers from the plot. At that time I worked in a mechanical workshop.

In the reconstruction of the movements that Brückner made after the disappearance of the little girl in the Portuguese Algarve, the investigation has confirmed that the pedophile later moved to the city of Braunschweig, just 60 kilometers from Hannover. There he opened a kiosk with who at that time was his partner. When the relationship ended, Brückner continued the business for only a year. In the vicinity of that town, Brückner buried one of his dead dogs. Under the body of the animal, the police found a USB with images of child pornography.

The plot excavated since Monday by agents of the Federal Criminal Office with the support of the Scientific Police measures about 20 square meters. The officers, who have erected a fence around the perimeter to prevent them from being observed in their work by the many media outlets that have gathered at the site, have two small diggers to remove the terrain and tracking dogs.

As far as the informants who have concentrated in the vicinity of that plot can see, it is only being excavated in one place and at a depth of almost two meters. Two tents have been installed where the collected samples are supposedly being analyzed.

"WE STILL CONVINCED OF GUILT"
Just a few days ago, the prosecutor in charge of the case, Christian Wolters, stated that "I cannot predict the outcome of the investigation, but we remain convinced of Brückner's guilt and hope to find forensic evidence to prove it."

The Braunschweig Public Prosecutor's Office, which is responsible for the case as Brückner's last known place of residence, is investigating against the clock. The suspect was convicted of drug trafficking in 2011, a sentence he is currently serving in a Kiel city prison. He will have fully served his sentence at the end of December, so if there is no formal accusation against him, and so far there is not, he will be released.

A conviction for rape in Portugal of a 72-year-old American is pending, but the process is under review, so the sentence is pending.
