Romanian Mircea Lucescu announced Monday that he is giving up training for Dynamo Kiev after his transfer to the capital's team unleashed a wave of anger among the club's fans, as the veteran coach trained the great rival, Shakhtar Donetsk. , from 2004 to 2016. It is already viral on Facebook.

"With regret I have decided to give up my possible collaboration with Dynamo Kiev," Lucescu, 74, told the Romanian newspaper Gazeta Sporturilor.

"It is impossible for me to work in a hostile environment that has been generated above all by the group of ultras," he added.

For his part, the owner and resident of the Kiev Dynamo, Igor Surkis, assured the Ukrainian sports site Tribuna.com that he is not aware of the resignation of Lucescu: "He has not arrived yet and you are already talking about his departure."

Surkis also defended Lucescu's election: “I have the right to sign whoever I want. For me, Mircea is a great professional and a great motivator. I am sure it will contribute a lot to Dinamo. ”

The decision to sign Lucescu a week ago provoked a furious reaction from Dinamo fans for the 12 years that the Romanian coach trained the great rival of the capital team in Ukrainian football.

Without a team since February 2019, Lucescu won 22 titles with Shakhtar between 2004 and 2016, including a UEFA Cup in 2009. "I wanted to return to football in Ukraine, where I have had many satisfactions," said the coach.

The announcement of his transfer last Thursday "means spitting all the fans of Dinamo in the face," said the group of ultras of the Kiev club in a statement on their Facebook account.

In his more than 40-year career, Lucescu has been a coach for Romania and Turkey, in addition to coaching clubs in Italy, Turkey, Russia and Ukraine.
