After being singled out for having ties to Guillermo Alarcón, the Argentine decided to defend himself. "What did they do with the silver? I don't know," he explained.

Gustavo Costas is one of the coaches who polarizes Alianza Lima fans. Many remember it with affection and others with contempt. The Argentine managed to become champion with the Blue and Whites in the 2003 and 2004 seasons and defeated Estudiantes de La Plata for the 2009 Copa Libertadores in one of the club's most memorable matches.

Despite lifting the titles and leaving a good impression from the footballing, many label him as a 'thief' because in the last months of his work (2011), accusations came out from some Blue and Whites' partners.

In conversation with the weekly "Azul y Blanco", Costas defended himself against the accusations:

“To me, the U. of Chile gave me 850 thousand dollars for the entire technical staff and Alianza Lima only gave me 250 thousand dollars. If I wanted to steal, am I going to steal where they give me 250? If it were so much for the money I would stay in Chile. When I returned there was not a peso in Alliance. People just talk, there is a lot of envy. I went to a team that gave me three times less. It hurts that they say that. I know what I did for Alliance. There was not a [CENSORED] weight. Later they were generating money. What did they do with the silver? I don't know, I was a coach. People talk, but they don't know anything, "explained Costas.

After being asked if he knew of the problems in which Guillermo Alarcón was involved, he said:

“I cannot speak what he did. I also understand that he was imprisoned for other things and not for cases of corruption in the Alliance. ”

“I always go to the clubs where I go, I have good relationships with the managers, but I have a good relationship, I don't manage in a club. When Carlos Franco lost the elections I said to him, if you lost I am leaving because you brought me and he said to me: ‘don't stay, you are the only one who can save Alianza because the club was bad, there was no money, nothing. He took me to meet Alarcón and by him I know him. He told me they were good people, "he added.
