Dr.Drako Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 At least two models in its range are expected to share the CMF-B base by 2023. Which ones? What happens? At the end of May, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance announced its new global organization, clarifying that the leading brand in each market or region would take the lead in developing models and that the other two would accompany it. In Latin America, Renault will lead the way by being a more successful brand in the main markets (Brazil and Argentina), and the plan is to lower costs by creating up to 7 models, using only two production plants and assembling everything on the same platform, in in this case, the CMF-B of the rhombus. Modular platforms have the possibility of designing different types of bodywork and scaling measurements, be it distance between grids, height and width, but sharing infinity of components to achieve a reduction in costs. Thus, the platforms usually carry a letter at the end that indicates the segment for which they were “adapted”, hence the CMF-B talking about small models, such as the European Renault Clio such as the one sold in Chile. } The successful Kwid uses this platform in the smallest variant, CMF-A. On the Nissan side, the new Versa already adopts the Renault base and should be followed by the next March and Kicks. When the generational replacement arrives, the models with platform B0 (the Sandero, Logan, Duster and Captur) must also go to the CMF-B. Renault could even have a sort of 7-seat Duster. The question is to know what will happen in Chile, where both brands operate with different distributors. Renault today supplies itself with a mix between European and regional product, while Nissan mainly takes the models made in Mexico. It will be an unknown to be resolved later. 2
