[AUTO] Opel Mokka enters its second generation with a pure electric version

Opel has given a preview of the second generation of the Mokka, the small SUV that, how could it be otherwise, expresses its great novelty in kilowatts: it will be the first Opel model with a 100% electric version since its launch, in addition to the most traditional drives.

 

 

The slogan that will flood the advertising channels when they are for sale (orders in late summer and in dealerships in early 2021), will be 'Audaz y Puro' (Pure Emotion, they say in Spain), the names that according to their creators define this small and robust five seats. "The new Mokka is a seducer and will change our brand perception!" Exclaims CEO Michael Lohscheller.

In addition to the battery-powered side, the Mokka debuts the new front appearance that the brand's models will adopt in the coming years. Opel Vizor, call this new front design in the Rüsselsheim offices.

 

 

SHORTER AND WIDER
The five-seater ensures Opel despite the reduction in length of this new Mokka by 12 and a half centimeters and the insignificant increase in the wheelbase (2 mm). Therefore, the car measures 4.15 meters long (previously 4.28) and the boot capacity hardly suffers with 350 liters compared to 356 for the 2017 generation.

This small strong man has been muscled with much shorter overhangs (61 mm less at the front, 66 mm less at the rear), 10 mm wider and 18-inch wheels that enhance that resounding image.

WEIGHT LOSS PLAN
Engineers at the German brand PSA have completed hard work to reduce the weight of the Mokka. Losing 120 kilos from the previous generation and in the electrical case having 136 horses and immediately 260 Nm of maximum torque promises agile driving in the city. The battery-powered Mokka, reports Opel, has gained "30% torsional rigidity with its low-rise integrated battery structure." The lower ballast, logically, also affects a greater use of energy.

 

 

 

NEW ERA OPEL
Lohscheller claims the new Mokka "reinvents" Opel. THE ELECTRIC MOTOR
The electric variant, with 100 kW, allows after driving modes (Normal, Eco and Sport) and cuts the maximum speed by 150 km / h. The 50kWh battery, with an eight-year warranty, comes with a 100 kW fast charge system that allows it to recharge 80% of its capacity in half an hour, but the electric Mokka allows other charging options, single-phase or three-phase at 11 kW That is, a wall charging point, a high speed pole, or a household outlet.

AUTONOMY TO TRAVEL
The Opel Mokka-e will display a maximum electric range of 322 kilometers (WLTP measurement) if driven in Normal mode. And the 'normal' thing is that in Eco mode that distance between charges is prolonged, although the brand's communication has not detailed it.

 

 

The new front that marks the style of the new times in the German brand frames some led matrix headlights along with the daytime running lights, also of led technology. The ray emblem remains in the center. Mark Adams, vice president of design for Opel, insists on the terms "bold" in design and "pure" in its lines.

SOPHISTICATION AND SIMPLICITY
Inside, the so-called Pure Panel mixes aesthetics with state-of-the-art info-entertainment technology and "all irritating visual stimuli are omitted," says Opel, noting that outside the electric parking brake and the electric gear lever, "there are no unnecessary elements." "

The update in technology offered by the Opel Mokka is summarized with adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, with automatic braking or acceleration depending on the conditions of the moment, lane keeping system, anti-reflective lighting (with the high beams permanently on) , electric parking brake, traffic signal recognition and, depending on the finish, a 180 degree rear view camera.

 

 

CONNECTED COMFORT
The options for interior comfort are also multiple: ergonomically adjustable six-position seats with individual adjustment, Alcantara or leather upholstery or the heated leather seat with massage function.There is wireless charging for mobile phones, multimedia systems compatible with Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto, with integrated voice control and different sizes of touch screen (7 "and 10") and monitors facing the driver to avoid distractions. In the event of a breakdown or accident, the assistance or emergency connection is activated.
