Iker Casillas surprised everyone by announcing that he was going to be a candidate to assume the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in the next elections. However, the Real Madrid exporter decided to step aside, considering that it was not an ideal time to think about being the head of the Spanish entity.

“I would like to inform you that I have decided not to run for the next RFEF elections recently called. The main reason that has led me to make this decision is the exceptional social, economic and health situation that our country is suffering, this makes the elections take a back seat. I think it is time to add and not divide, because football and society need it. In the sports and federation field, we must focus on how to help players, clubs, competitions and elections would only wear down and make us focus our efforts on something that today is not essential, ”said the world champion with the Spanish National Team.

Despite the decision, Iker Casillas left open the option of taking the presidency of the RFEF in the not too distant future. This could even come in the next elections to be held in Spain.
