Benfica denounced in the first minutes of Thursday that the bus that was transporting them, after the match that ended in a goalless draw against Tondela, at the restart of the Portuguese league, was attacked with stones. As a result of the unfortunate incident, players Julian Weigl and Andrija Zivkovic were taken to a Lisbon hospital.

The incident took place when the bus returned to the center of Seixal, on the outskirts of Lisbon, when it was attacked by unknown persons.

"We report that, as a matter of precaution, the players Julian Weigl and Zivkovic were immediately taken to the Hospital da Luz", in the Portuguese capital, "to be examined," Benfica said in a statement offering "full collaboration with the authorities ”to identify those responsible.

After leaving the hospital, Weigl published a photo on Instagram today with Zivkovic, who has a bandage on his right eye.

"I just want them to know that I'm fine. We were very lucky! We have all made mistakes, but there was a line that was crossed! Throwing stones at a bus without worrying if someone gets hurt? I know that the true fans of Benfica are not like that! ”, He wrote.

Zivkovic, for his part, shared the same photograph with a message in which he pointed out that you cannot "justify this behavior".

With the draw against Tondela, Benfica equaled 60 points with Porto, which is why they share the lead, although the Blue and Whites' team occupies first place as they have the "goal average" in their favor.

The result generated a lot of tension and, in addition to the stone attack, it was manifested in several graffiti with insults that have appeared on the walls surrounding the houses of the players Pizzi and Rafa and the coach, Bruno Lage.
