The number of pieces grew in an unprecedented way in a span of 100 years.

Although at first glance it does not seem, a car is made up, not hundreds, but thousands of parts, to the point that counting each of the elements that make it up would take hours and even days to complete this task.

The evolution of the number of pieces

As has happened with performance, comfort, technology and design, the evolution of the car has made the parts that make up a vehicle have increased considerably. We speak in the past because this trend of increasing the number of components decreases with electric cars, since having fewer mechanical parts, the total number of elements is less than that of an internal combustion vehicle.

Without deviating further from the subject, the vehicles of the past, these "had the pieces numbered." For example, the Ford Model T, the first to be mass-produced in automobile history, consisted of only 43 pieces.

In 100 years, everything changed

But with all the evolutions that the automobile industry has had, the number of parts grew in an unthinkable way in a span of 100 years. Wow, the cars with the fewest parts are Formula 1 cars with a total of 60,000 components. And not for that reason they are less complex than a normal car, on the contrary, technologically they are superior. Keep in mind that the parts are what give the car weight, and in F1, lightness is one of the key points.

Evolution in every way

This huge increase in the number of pieces is related to performance, that is, improvements always lead to a progressive increase in elements. Likewise, all the elements of a car are important, but even having this clear, we can distinguish two types of parts:

Essential parts: taking into account that the number of parts varies depending on the age or modernity of the vehicle and, above all, depending on the engine it carries. Thus, the engine and operating parts - lights, wiper rubbers - are an example of essential parts, without them the car would not work - engine - and could not legally circulate - lights, windshields.

Additional parts: the parts in charge of operating the air conditioning, the ones that make the windows rise and fall or, all the decorative elements, are examples that belong to the category of accessory parts.

But how many parts does a conventional car contain?

Regardless if they are essential or additional, the approximate number of parts that a modern car has is between about 70,000 and 90,000. Contrary to po[CENSORED]r belief, conventional cars with simple bodies have more parts.

Taking these figures into account, when you are driving you always have to remember how complex a car is, just the number of parts that make it up. That without counting, the manufacturing process that is also a waste of technology and engineering.
