Alberto Contador, the only Spanish cyclist to win the big three by stages and one of the seven in history who achieved it, assures that "he had never seen a talent like Remco Evenepoel", the pearl of Belgian cycling, 20 years old, who went from youth to professional, in whose field he already stood out last season, winning, among other tests, the classic San Sebastián and silver in the World Time Trial.

"I am convinced that Evenepoel will fight for victory in the Giro. His performance numbers indicate that he can already fight for victory in a big one. Competing in the Giro to debut is a good option on his part," he said.

As Contador explained, retired in 2017 as a professional, "to dispute the victory in the Tour you need a very strong team in the mountains and that, Evenepoel would not have in the Deceuninck-Quick Step."

"I have never seen that talent in my life. He does incredible things. He won the Clásica San Sebastián, the European time trial, the Tour of the Algarve ... Evenepoel is a rider never seen before, although, obviously, Eddy Merckx is still the biggest, but it was another era. Now the runners specialize more, "said the former Madrid rider in VRT.

Remco Evenepoel, winner this season of the Tour of San Juan and Tour of the Algarve, plans to debut this year at the Giro d'Italia, scheduled between October 3 and 25.
