Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto were transferred last Saturday to a prison in Asunción, Paraguay, after the preventive detention order signed by a judge at the Palace of Justice, where they had appeared about six hours earlier for the imposition of measures.

Both were charged with the punishable act of using a public document with false content by the prosecutor Osmar Legal, from the Specialized Unit for Economic Crimes, when trying to enter the country with fictitious passports last Wednesday.

On Friday afternoon, Ronaldinho and Roberto appeared before Judge Mirko Valinotti, in charge of deciding on the requirement of the hitherto prosecutor in the case, Federico Delfino, to benefit from a procedural exit that would unlink the two brothers in the case.

The ex-soccer player and his brother were finally transferred to an Asunción prison on Saturday after the preventive detention order. Both are currently being held in the 'Quadrilateral', a sector located on the top floor of the main building that houses police officers with judicial processes, as well as politicians prosecuted for corruption and drug traffickers.

Pretrial detention can last six months

The judge explained that the maximum duration of an investigation process in Paraguay is six months, although she clarified that this time could be reduced depending on the allegations of the defense of the former player and his brother, who is also his representative.

Ruiz also reported that he rejected the proposal for a house arrest made by the defense of the two brothers, since he was not presented with enough documentation about the homes mentioned. "There is danger of flight, a foreigner who entered the country illegally," said the judge.
