Jorge Luiz Domingos, better known as Jorginho, a Flamengo masseur for 40 years, died on Monday of cardiac arrest in a hospital in Rio de Janeiro, where he was admitted after contracting the coronavirus.

 

The 68-year-old man, the oldest worker in the Rio de Janeiro Football Department, with whom he was linked since 1980, and was part of the technical commission of the Brazilian team that won the World Cup in Korea and Japan in 2002.

 

In the 80s, he shared costumes and successes with the flamenguista golden generation led by Arthur Antunes Coimbra, better known as ‘Zico’, and conquered the Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cup in 1981.

 

Last year saw another historic moment after winning the Libertadores and the Brazilian Championship, a feat that only Edson Arantes do Nascimento's Santos, Santos Pelé ’, had achieved so far in the 1960s.

For two weeks he had been hospitalized in a clinic on the Ilha do Governador, in the north of Rio, but this Monday he suffered a cardiac arrest "after complications from COVID-19" and died, according to the 'Mengao' in a statement. .

 

"Flamengo lends its condolences to Jorginho's family, friends and co-workers and will eternally appreciate all his dedication," said the entity, which listed the 31 titles he won throughout his career as a masseuse.

 

The first soccer manager in Brazil to be out for coronavirus was precisely the vice president of Flamengo, Mauricio Gomes de Mattos, whose positive forced him to carry out diagnostic tests on the entire squad.
