Dark Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 was recorded at 1:44 a.m. This Friday in the Ancash region, the Geophysical Institute of Peru (PGI) reported on its social networks. According to the IGP, the epicenter of this telluric movement was located 85 kilometers west of Chimbote, in the province of Santa, in the Ancash region, and 23 kilometers deep. The local authorities of the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) have not yet reported personal or material damage due to the earthquake, which occurred this morning. In cases of earthquakes, the Indeci authorities recommend acting calmly and identifying the safe areas inside and outside the home, in order to avoid personal injury to regret. In addition, they advise having an emergency backpack containing tools, portable radio and non-perishable canned staple foods. Peru is located in the area called the Pacific Ring of Fire, where approximately 85% of world seismic activity is recorded. 1
