Dark Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 The president of Peru, “Martín Vizcarra”: https: //peru.com/noticias-de-martin-vizcarra-62456, affirmed that he is _ “a person of his word” and that he will not seek reelection in the general elections of 2021 , as some of his political rivals claim. “I am a person of my word, I will be president until 2021. There will be no re-election. Do not try to confuse the po[CENSORED]tion, ”said the ruler when expressing his annoyance at the comments of opponents who insist that a legal formula should be sought to prevent any re-election attempt. Vizcarra has recalled on several previous occasions that the Peruvian Constitution prohibits presidential re-election and even in December 2018 he promoted a referendum in which citizens approved to extend that impediment also for congressmen. THE END OF THE POLITICAL CRISIS The president also affirmed that the endorsement that the Constitutional Court (TC) gave on Tuesday to its decision to dissolve the Congress last September 30 closed the political crisis that faced the Executive with the Legislative during the last years. He stressed that, with the judgment of the TC, a stage of confrontation was ended that began on July 28, 2016, when economist Pedro Pablo Kuczynski assumed the presidency and Congress became dominated by Fujimori. Vizcarra recalled that since March 2018, when he assumed the presidency after Kuczynski's resignation, he tried to work together with Congress and even proposed that the general elections be advanced to end the political crisis, but his proposal was filed by Fujimori . RESPECT FOR THE CONSTITUTION The Peruvian president added that the endorsement given by the TC to the dissolution of Congress has allowed him to reaffirm that he has always complied with the Constitution and that he hopes to work with the new Legislature that will be elected on January 26. "It is clear, and we have always said it, we are going to respect the opinion of the Constitutional Court, as we have done with all institutions," he said. He expressed, in that sense, his confidence that he will be able to conclude, along with Congress, the political and judicial reform of the country and that the 130 new legislators will put “their maximum work effort” to give norms that benefit all Peruvians. 2020 WILL BE A BETTER YEAR Vizcarra met on Wednesday with the representatives of the Network of Urban and Rural Municipalities of Peru, who asked them to optimize the execution of their budget to reduce inequalities in their localities. “We trust that this 2020 will be better than 2019, which was a year of learning, because it was his first year of management as local authorities, where he learned to coordinate and define mechanisms to achieve proposed objectives. This year, we are committed to achieving better results. If we program, we can make a better expense, ”he emphasized. The governor committed the municipal authorities to seek to exceed 80% of the annual public expenditure on quality works and for the benefit of its po[CENSORED]tion. EFE 1
