[MC]Ronin[MC] Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 The sea has dumped a jar of yogurt since 1976. A woman collecting rubbish in Denia, off the Spanish coast of Costa Blanca, found a plastic yogurt bucket labeled the 1976 Montreal Olympics, Metro reported. Maite Mompo said that she was attracted to the Jopla brand because it had disappeared from Spanish supermarkets a long time ago - back in 2001. "I looked more closely and found that it was around 1976," said Mayte Mompo. She stressed that her find shows how urgently plastic containers need to be stopped. The plastic bucket says "Official Supplier of the 1976 Montreal Olympics" in Spanish. According to Maya Mompo, it will take 150 years to break it down. "It's a planetary-level ecocide. Plastic not only kills millions of animals a year, it's also in our food chain. Studies have recently shown that 90 percent of our salt contains microplastics. The same percentage is in drinking water," said Mayte Mompo. Microplastics are formed by breaking down larger pieces of plastic. It is also manufactured for the cosmetic industry. The small pieces easily pass through the filtration systems and enter the ocean, where they are a threat to marine life. Its effects on human health have not yet been specified, but it is estimated that one ingests about 50,000 plastic particles a year and inhales as much. Quote
