The commander of the Aerospace Force of the Corps of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards of Iran (CGRI), Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said on Saturday that when he learned of the accident of the passenger plane of Ukraine International Airlines, he wanted to "be dead," according to local media.

"After hearing this news [...], I wanted to be dead," acknowledged the senior military officer, who spoke this Saturday at a press conference. Hajizadeh added that the CGRI accepts full responsibility for the destruction of the aircraft and that it will accept any decision taken by the authorities of the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian commander explained that the Ukrainian plane was mistakenly identified as an incoming cruise missile, which eventually triggered the tragedy.

Hajizadeh pointed out that the incident occurred amid great tension with Washington, "greater than at the beginning of the [Iranian] Revolution of 1979," he said, "and that the highest level of alertness prevailed in his country, prior to" a state of war, "awaiting potential attacks by the US.

The sinister of Ukrainian Boeing
A Boeing 737-800 Ukrainian plane crashed on January 8 near the Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran. The 176 people traveling on board, both passengers and baggage members, perished in the accident.

The air catastrophe occurred hours after the ballistic missile attacks of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps began against two Iraqi bases used by US troops, in revenge for the murder of General Qassem Soleimani, killed in an air strike American last week.

Following the promise of Donald Trump to attack 52 Iranian sites - some of them of high cultural value - if Tehran launched attacks against Americans or undermined their national interests after the elimination of Soleimani, Iran's air defense systems were at a high level of alert following the launch of missiles against the bases in Iraq.
