Coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard quattro four-wheel drive with a self-locking center differential, the V8 engine manages to accelerate the S8 to 100 km / h in just 3.8 seconds. And that against the weight of 2230 kg. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h.

The standard soft hybrid system consists of a 48-volt starter alternator and a lithium-ion battery, which the company claims helps reduce fuel consumption by up to 0.8 liters / 100 km. But miracles should not be expected, as Audi says the average fuel consumption is 11.3 l / 100 km and the average CO2 emission is 258 g / km.

As a flagship in the Audi range, the new S8 comes standard with active suspension, which pre-adjusts to road conditions, four swivel wheels, a sports quattro rear differential, Audi drive select, cylinder cut-off and more.

The active suspension works in conjunction with the air dampers to raise or lower each wheel individually through electromechanical mechanisms. A front mounted camera detects larger road irregularities, thus adjusting the suspension to them so that the bodywork does not shatter when passing through them.

The Audi S8 offers a set of 38 driver assistance systems, divided into City and Tour packages. Among the most important may be Adaptive Cruise Assistant combining the features of Adaptive Cruise Control, Congestion Assistant and Lane Keeping Assistant, Audi pre sense 360 ° and more. When equipped with all these systems, the S8 relies on five radar sensors and a laser scanner controlled by zFAS.
