The government of Chancellor Angela Merkel and German carmakers have agreed to increase aid for the purchase of new electric vehicles, writes Automotive Cluster Bulgaria.

The aim is to facilitate the transition from combustion engines to electric vehicles. The so-called. An eco-bonus for battery-powered cars priced below € 40,000 will double to € 6,000 per car, with the car industry taking half of the amount.

The subsidy means that a version of the new VW ID.3 equipped with some extras will cost around € 24-25 thousand, analysts at Evercore ISI said in a letter to investors.

Germany is approaching Norway's leader in absolute numbers of new electric vehicles sold - 53,000 this year, according to the Federal Transport Service.
