[Nike]
Microsoft's philosophy is changing thanks to Satya Nadella, current CEO of the company. He is betting more on open source, allowing to reach more people. You can currently download Windows 10 and run it without a license, only with a watermark. The next step will be to change Edge, the browser that replaces Internet Explorer, and base it on Chromium. During the Ignite 2019 conference, Microsoft highlighted that Edge will arrive on Linux next year. We clearly see how Nadella is changing Microsoft's philosophy regarding free software. Remember that June 2018, Microsoft acquired GitHub, the world's largest open source repository for 7.5 billion dollars. Microsoft Edge will arrive in Linux in 2020 We see how the company in this change of philosophy is committed to offering services to other platforms. In the past Windows was restrictive and its tools were only available for Microsoft operating systems. Office can now be used on iOS, Android and macOS without major problems. Now they want to take Edge to Linux and also to Android, iOS and macOS, arrived for Apple's operating system on January 15, 2020. Chromium is an open source solution developed by Google and can be freely molded. Microsoft wants to approach Google Chrome, also thinking about extensions and greater customization. We assume that they will not be as liberal as Google, which has a number of extensions that are not used significantly. Edge Chromium for Windows and macOS has been under development for some time and there are Beta versions for Dev and Canary. It is not known how the development phase of Edge Chromium for Linux is, but logically it will be much greener. Possibly for the second half of 2020 we have at least one beta version for Linux.
