Intel: Comet Lake-S with 10 cores and 20 wires, new socket, new chipset and with 14nm of eons ago

We saw earlier this week how Intel presented its financial results, the best in its history. This at a time of inability to meet demand and AMD hitting hard with AMD Ryzen processors. All this seasoned with that there is no way to see 10nm processors in the market. While all this is happening, the data of the Comet Lake-S has just been filtered.

Comet Lake-S is Intel's new family of processors, the 10th Generation and yes, it will be based on 14nm. The same Skylake architecture that takes four generations (five with this) will be used in the market. Intel for the problems with the 10nm left behind its Tik-Tok system that they say will recover with the 10nm.

Although AMD Ryzen processors squeeze hard, 14nm processors withstand the type in gaming. In other tasks that depend more on the number of cores, Intel processors sink. All this without talking about the schizophrenic price of Intel processors.

Filtered Intel Comet Lake-S @ 14nm processors

If we look at the Comet Lake-S processors, we see that Intel recovers HyperThreading in all its families. The top of the range will be the Core i9-10900K with 10 cores and 20 threads, which will have a 65W Core i9-10900 version of TDP and the Core i9-10900T of 35W TDP.

We have below the Core i7-10700K of 8 cores and 16 threads (like the current Core i9-9900K). This processor will also have a version with a TDP of 65W and one with a TDP of 35W. Below this we will have the Core i5-10500K with 6 cores and 12 processing threads. We will see from this processor an adaptation with a TDP of 65W and another with a TDP of 35W.

New processors with new chipset and socket

ntel introduces the LGA1200 socket, predictably the socket used by 10nm processors. So there is no possibility of retro compatibility between processors. The apparent changes in the chipset will be minimal, but more than enough to eliminate compatibility. In addition, the Intel 4000 Series chipset is added.

Comet Lake-S processors will have 16 PCIe lines direct to the processor and another 24 PCIe through the chipset. Yes, they are PCIe 3.0 lines, nothing from PCIe 4.0. Perhaps the most interesting thing is that these processors will integrate 802.11ax WiFi.

On performance, Intel says they improve by 18% compared to Coffee Lake Refresh. Normal, because the top of the range adds two cores and HyperThreading lost in its predecessors is recovered. What have not been revealed are the frequencies, but with this data, we will see cut frequencies, nothing from 10 cores at 5.0GHz, for sure.

No prices have been disclosed, but if they want to sell these processors, they should cut prices accordingly. Perhaps the Core i3 are the most interesting, because 4 cores and 8 threads for gaming are ideal. We will go from € 500 for 4 cores and 8 threads to about € 200 or less, which is not bad. Nor do we know if Intel will do the trick is to take out ‘KF’ processors with graphics disabled because they are defective and will sell them just like those that incorporate iGPU.
