The Colombian cyclist and his new squad, the Arkea, were left out of the World Tour.

 

The International Cycling Union -UCI- officialized the list of the teams that will compete in the top category next season and Arkea-Samsic, squad in which the Colombian Nairo Quintana and Warren Barguil will compete was not taken into account and must wait to climb to the highest category

The teams chosen will have a UCI World Tour license in the period between 2020 and 2022 and will have their place secured at the main calendar events.

This list shows the names of the 18 teams that have competed in the UCI World Tour this season (the Israel Cycling Academy will compete in 2020 with the Katusha license after reaching an agreement) plus that of the Cofidis team, the main novelty in this list.

The French squad, which next season will feature Italian Elia Viviani, Frenchman Guillaume Martin and Spaniards Fernando Barceló, Jesús and José Herrada and Luis Ángel Maté. This squad imposed itself on the candidacy of the Arkéa-Samsic of Nairo Quintana.

Thus, the Nairo team will remain in the second division and depend on the invitations to run the best races in the world.

Because they are French, they must be invited to the events organized by the Tour, such as Dauphine. Nice Paris and the same tour. They have some option of going around Spain, as ASO organizes it, but local teams are generally given priority.

The UCI will announce the final decision on WorldTour licenses in December and has made it clear that for the next three-year period (2023-2025) only the 18 best teams will be awarded a new WorldTour license.
