He cited sources from the group's management who said Monday night that the situation had changed "fundamentally" because of the Turkish military operation in northern Syria. "The location near Izmir was chosen because it is significantly cheaper and offers better sales opportunities," representatives of the board of directors and supervisors said. The decision was therefore taken to the detriment of Bulgaria and other EU countries. But in the current situation, it can no longer be a vote in favor of Turkey, and for some time there will be no signing of contracts, "Handelsblatt writes. The German company has not abandoned its Turkish design for the Passat and Superb models. It is not threatened with termination, it will just wait, says the Frankfurt Algemine Zeitung. Especially if civilians are killed in the Turkish operation, the vote will be postponed for at least a few months. Handelsblatt explains that from the perspective of a large corporation such as Volkswagen preparing an investment of more than 1 billion euros, the situation becomes unpredictable, and the consequences - at least for its reputation - can be damaging.
