It is no longer a secret that most of the new AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors cannot reach the frequencies with which they are marketed, but a recent study shows that the Ryzen 9 3900X is the worst of them, with less than 6% of these chips. being able to reach the frequency of 4.6 GHz with which it prides itself.

The famous overclocker and CPU guru, De8auer, held a brief public investigation, asking more than 3,000 people who own a third generation Ryzen to run Cinebench and send him the results from which the frequencies reached. These results were, according to him, "much weaker than expected."

The third generation of Ryzen from AMD was a huge success, however; 7nm processors offer unexpectedly good multi-core performance for the required amount and makes the recommendation of an Intel processor at a similar price almost impossible. But it would not be an AMD launch if something went wrong, so it is quite clear that the frequencies in the Boost that AMD praises before launching are far beyond the power of most rack processors up to this point.

But the worst result is the Ryzen 9 3900X which in its 12 cores had to reach 4.6Ghz frequencies in boost, and AMD strongly argued before launch that the most expensive processor in the 7nm series will be at the same time and best in games due to the high frequency.

Of 685 valid results obtained by De8auer, less than 6% of the new processors were able to reach the frequency of 4.6Ghz in boost on a single core. Most are below this level, "like, down below," De8auer says. "Even if the result is 4.55Ghz for example, this is the maximum boost, something you reach for a second anyway, after which it goes down even more."

Meanwhile, the Ryzen 7 3700X with its 65W TDP sees an average of 15% of processors that can reach 4.4Ghz, while 25% of the 95W Ryzen 7 3800X manages to reach 4.5Ghz. But De8auer says the 3800X is a useless processor that no one would recommend. "Useless" might be a bad term, but I would not recommend this processor, realistically speaking.

I have on my personal PC an AMD Ryzen 3600X, and while neither my copy reaches the speed of 4.4Ghz, I managed to calm the voltage that reached 1.45v on my car and lower it to 1.2v while all 6 cores of the processor work at the frequency of 4.2Ghz set in the BIOS, so I can say that I got a decent OC without bibbing a lot. Anyway, I'm still convinced that I made the right choice with this processor and I know that Intel couldn't offer me the same level of performance for this money.
