Paris 2024: a new label for local authorities

The Paris 2024 committee officially launched, on Monday in the Senate, the Terre de Jeux 2024 label, which must allow all voluntary local authorities to participate in the Olympic adventure.

 As when paddling, Tony Estanguet loves being first. Monday morning the President of the OCOG was pleased to announce that the Paris 2024 Committee is the first to propose to local authorities (municipalities, departments, regions, cities ...) to associate with the Paris Games 2024 without necessarily being the back bases of the delegations.

"Until the 32nd edition of the Olympic Games, only communities that hosted events or delegations could claim the Olympic adventure. We wanted to go further and open this opportunity to all communities, "explained the triple Olympic champion of canoe (C1) since the Senate, accompanied by the president of the upper chamber Gérard Larcher.

On Monday, June 17, at a meeting in the French Senate building, the Organizing Committee of the 2024 Paris Olympics officially launched the Terre de Jeux 2024 label ("Land of games 2024") to allow all local authorities ( who choose to do so) participate in the Olympic and Paralympic adventure.

This approach is something new. Before Paris 2024, only local authorities who actually organized events or welcomed delegations could claim to be part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"The objective is to allow all local regions, regardless of their resources and size, whether in continental France or overseas territories, to be involved in the Olympic and Paralympic adventure and take advantage of the dynamics of the Games to highlight and accelerate their own sports-related projects, "said Tony Estanguet, president of the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games.

Local authorities (cities, departments and regions) can now publish their applications on the dedicated Internet platform: terredejeux2024.org. The first certifications will be granted in autumn, and the process will continue until 2024.
From October of this year, all selected local authorities will receive a communications kit with the logo of the operation, derivative objects and examples of actions that will be carried out in 2020 during the 'Olympic and Paralympic Week' organized in the schools in February 2020, 'Olympic Day' on June 23 and during the Tokyo 2020 Games between the end of July and the beginning of September.
