Ford Explorer IV

The Ford Explorer is an off-road vehicle of the segment E produced by the American manufacturer Ford Motor Company since 1990. The model was also sold under the names Mazda Navajo, Mercury Mountaineer and Lincoln Aviator; The Mazda, Mercury and Lincoln brands have some link with Ford. The Explorer has a chassis of stringers and longitudinal front engine, and is available with rear-wheel drive and all four wheels. It is below Ford Expedition. The Explorer can accommodate 7 people while the Expedition can carry up to 8 people comfortably. The most complete version is Eddie Bauer.

The first generation went on sale in March 1990 as a 1991 model to face directly the Chevrolet Blazer / GMC Jimmy, Dodge Ramcharger, Nissan Pathfinder, Honda Pilot models. It was offered with bodies of three and five doors; the second had a 245 mm larger battle. Its only engine was 4.0-liter V6 petrol, which developed 157 hp of maximum power (173 hp since the 1993 model). This first generation was larger in size than its other competitors of those years, mentioned above. The limited edition of 1993 was the most luxurious version with monochromatic exteriors, ceiling console with compass, external thermometer, stirrups, luxury wheels, etc. Eddie Bauer versions generally have attachments such as leather seats, and some more colorful exterior finishes. The first generation could accommodate 5 adult passengers even up to 1.90 tall and with more comfort than a medium sedan. This generation broke up worldwide sales lists with 270,000 units sold per year and in its second generation sales were reduced to 160,000 units.

The second generation of the Explorer went on to incorporate independent front suspension, and its oval exterior resembled that of the rest of the US Ford range. The model was re-stylized in two stages: the rear on the 1998 line, and the front on the 1999 line.

The two body options of the previous generation were maintained. Near the end of its life cycle, in 2001, a third body called "Explorer Sport Trac" was added. It is a double cabin pickup, which remained on sale until 2010 as well as a three-door version that only came out in 2011 with a different front just like the two-door SUV skulls. With respect to the engines, a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 213 hp was added to the 4.0-liter V6 engine of the Explorer I, later boosted to 218 hp

The third generation Explorer was no longer based on the Ranger. The three doors disappeared from the range, and the recently launched Explorer Sport Trac skipped this generation of the Explorer. For its part, the five doors received a seven-seater option. Its two gasoline engines were a 4.0-liter V6 and 213 hp and a 4.6-liter V8 with 243 hp.
