Klay Alexander Thompson (Los Angeles, California, February 8, 1990) is an American basketball player who belongs to the NBA Golden State Warriors squad. At 2.01 meters tall he plays in the escort position. He is the first player in NBA history to achieve 500 triples in just 3 years of career. Since the summer of 2016, with just 26 years old Thompson became the only player in Basketball History to be world champion, Olympic champion and NBA champion with less than 27 years. To date, he is the only basketball player to get that "triple crown" at such an early age.

He is the son of former basketball player and number 1 of the 1978 NBA draft Mychal Thompson (two-time NBA champion with Los Angeles Lakers), and brother of also basketball player Mychel Thompson2 and Los Angeles baseball player Dodgers Trayce Thompson

Sports career
college
He played for three seasons with the Cougars of Washington State University, in which he averaged 17.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.3 In his first season he started from the first game, achieving a double-double in the sixth day against Mississippi State, with 19 points and 10 rebounds.4 He led his team in percentage of free throws and 3 shots, being elected best sixth man of the Pacific-10 Conference and in the best quintet freshman.2

The following year he started the season being the best player of the Great Alaska Shootout tournament, beating the record of the same by getting 43 points in a match against San Diego.2 He managed to score 20 or more points in 18 games of the regular season, being chosen in the best quintet of the Pac-10.5

In what was going to be his last season he led his conference in scoring, finishing in 11th place nationally, after averaging 21.6 points per game, being elected for the second consecutive year in the best quintet of the conference.6 He finished the season beating the historic record of the Cougars scoring, with 733 points, subsequently giving up his last season of college to enter the NBA draft.7

Professional
He was elected in the eleventh position of the 2011 NBA Draft by Golden State Warriors. 8

On October 31, 2014, days after his fourth season in the league began, the Golden State Warriors and the player reached a renewal agreement for the maximum salary, thanks to which Thompson will charge a total of 70 million dollars, to split between the seasons 2015 / 2016-2018 / 2019.9

During the first week of the 2014-15 season, recently renewed, he won his first Player of the Week award from the Western Conference.

He holds the record of points scored in a single quarter, with 37. He did it on January 23, 2015, in the third quarter against Sacramento Kings; He scored 9 triples (record also in a single quarter), 4 two-point baskets and two free throws, all without fail, and during the course of 9'40 real minutes, as the first basket came after more than two minutes of game. He finished the game with 52 points scored.

On December 5, 2016, Klay managed to score 60 points in just 29 minutes, which is the highest score of his career.11 He became the first player in NBA history to achieve 60 points in less than 30 minutes of play. 12

In the 2016 NBA All-Star Game he won the triple contest, imposing himself on his Warriors teammate Stephen Curry.

During the sixth game of the 2019 NBA finals, when trying to make a mate at 2:22 by the end of the third quarter, he received a foul from Danny Green that prevented him from finishing the match. Subsequently, it was confirmed that he had suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
