Michael Jeffrey Jordan (New York; February 17, 1963), better known as Michael Jordan, is a former American basketball player. He currently owns the NBA team the Charlotte Hornets.2 He is considered by most fans and specialists as the best basketball player of all time.3 He retired definitively in 2003 at the Washington Wizards, after having done so in two previous occasions, in 1993 and 1999, after having played 13 seasons in the Chicago Bulls.

He won six rings with Chicago Bulls, averaging 30.1 points per game in his entire sports career, the highest average in the history of the league. We also won 10 top scorer titles, 5 MVP of the season, 6 MVP of the Finals; He was named in the best NBA quintet ten times, on the defensive nine times, leader in steals for three years and a prize for the best defender of the season.

Since 1983, he appeared on the cover of the prestigious sports magazine Sports Illustrated on 50 occasions, a whole record, in addition to being a sportsman of the year in 1991 and best athlete of the twentieth century by ESPN and second after Babe Ruth by Associated Press

Michael, son of James and Deloris Jordan, was born in Brooklyn, New York. His family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, when he was a child. He studied at Ogden Elementary School, and later, at Trash Junior High School; subsequently, he attended Emsley A. Laney High School, where, due to his impressive athletic conditions, he played basketball, baseball and football. However, he was removed from the basketball team in his second year because for his height (1.80 meters) he was apparently underdeveloped. The following summer, he grew 10 centimeters and trained rigorously.5 In his senior year at Laney High, he averaged a triple-double: 29.2 points, 11.6 rebounds and 10.1 assists, 6 and was selected in the McDonald's All-American Team

Jordan received a scholarship to play basketball at the University of North Carolina in the 1981-82 season, where he specialized in geography. In his first year he was trained by the legendary Dean Smith, and was named the best freshman of the season (ACC Freshman of the Year), averaging 13.4 points per game with 53.4% in field shots. 8 By then, Jordan was practically a dominant player on the court although, even so, the Tar Heels were not led by him, but by James Worthy, future member of the Hall of Fame. In the 1982 NCAA Championship final against Georgetown Hoyas, Jordan gave the victory to the Tar Heels with a two-point basket suspended just seconds from the end to take the championship, the first success in his impeccable professional career. In the rival team was the pivot Patrick Ewing, future New York Knicks player who would attend, although on different sides, magical nights at Madison Square Garden.

He was then elected NCAA All-American in the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons, and won the award, for the best college player of the year (Naismith College Player of the Year) and the John R. Wooden Award in the 1983 season -1984. He left the university of the same year to appear at the NBA Draft. The Houston Rockets chose Hakeem Olajuwon and the Portland Trail Blazers Sam Bowie, after which the Chicago Bulls selected Jordan as the third pick. Jordan would study at the university again in 1986 to definitely graduate in geography.
