As part of the Next Gen 2019 event held by BMW in Munich, Germany, the brand presents its future models, including the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster, a motorcycle driven by an electric motor, without losing the identity and the iconic look that has characterized the BMW Motorrad models. Edgar Heinrich, Design Director of BMW Motorrad, pointed out that "the boxer engine is the heart of BMW Motorrad, an absolute unconditional element of its character. But BMW Motorrad also represents visionary concepts of zero emission vehicles. After all: anyone who has tried it in practice knows very well that driving on two wheels is just as exciting when powered electrically! The high level of torque just at the moment of disconnection makes the acceleration impressive. This almost brutal energy delivery creates a completely new experience of dynamic performance. And the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster projects this experience. " A futuristic machine, but with a familiar lookFrom the brand explain that in a motorcycle, the engine is the centerpiece, is the fundamental element that provides the basis for the entire architecture. But the components of the electric unit have completely different requirements in terms of installation space. Whereas in a conventional motorcycle the size of the motor is determined mainly by its capacity, the battery occupies the most space in the case of an electric vehicle. Considering that the electric motors are compact, in the space that a combustion engine would occupy, the battery was placed that is surrounded by ventilation elements. The cylinder-shaped electric motor is located below the battery and is directly connected to a universal shaft. Dynamic aspect The profile of the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster shows dynamism and agility, thanks to elements such as the flat tubular structure, located where a fuel tank would go and combined with a modern design seat, which together project the flight line of a sports roadster. It also highlights the minimalist design of the front and rear lights, distinguishing elements of BMW Motorrad lighting. The headlight shows daytime LED driving light in a dynamic and flat U-shape, while two compact LED lenses on each side provide high and low light. The new motorcycle comes with a special outfit for the pilot A functional two-piece suit that is not instantly recognized as protective clothing but as modern clothing. The jacket with large graphics and informal black trousers feature sewn-in protectors almost invisibly, while the integrated technologies allow for various lighting functions, as well as the digital connectivity of the future. An asymmetrical backpack vest rounds off the driver's equipment for the vehicle.
