Rio de Janeiro, Dec 27 (EFE) .- The goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe, one of the idols of the Gremio and who was champion of the Copa Libertadores last year, accepted a millionaire proposal to strengthen the Saudi club Al-Ittihad in 2019 and abandoned the Brazilian team where he started his career and with whom he has played for 19 years.

Although the tricolor club has not yet confirmed the transfer, the coach of the Gremio, Renato Gaúcho, admitted the departure of Grohe in statements he gave to journalists before participating in the "Match of the Stars", the friendly with great idols traditionally organized at the end of the year by ex-player Zico at the Maracaná Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

                

"It was the same in the last two years, several players came out, we lost players, we brought others and we won titles, 2019 will not be different, but we are going to set up another team and continue fighting for titles," the coach said when asked about the transfer. .

Renato Gaúcho added that the Gremio will look for a new goalkeeper to replace Grohe because the team needs at least three goalkeepers to have conditions to dispute titles.

According to the coach, as Marcelo Grohe will no longer be with the Gremio at the beginning of the preseason, scheduled for January 3, the new incumbent in the position will be Paulo Victor.

The Guild accepted the transfer apparently at the request of Grohe himself and due to the high values that benefit both the player and the club.

This is because the club of Saudi Arabia will have to pay for the termination of a contract linking up to 2020 to Grohe with the Guild, owner of 100% of their federative rights.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper started his career in the Gremio children's divisions 19 years ago and has played 408 games with the Porto Alegre team as a professional.

Since 2014 he has been the titular goalkeeper of the Gremio and only lost the position in the last months of this year due to a fracture in a rib that made him lose important matches of the Brazilian Championship and the Copa Libertadores, in which the set was eliminated in semifinals

As a player of the Guild he won a title of the Libertadores (2017), one of the Recopa (2018), one of the Copa do Brasil (2016) and four of the Gaúcho Championship (2006, 2007, 2010 and 2018).
