NEW YORK - In front of a packed house in New York's mythical Madison Square Garden, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez defeated Briton Michael 'Rocky' Fielding, wresting the WBA world title at 168 pounds.

'Canelo' did not want to waste much time and ended the fight in three rounds, punishing without blush to 'Rocky', that he could do little to defend himself from the flashes that the Mexican gave him from the beginning. He made him kneel in each of the three assaults that Liverpool could stand up to, until in the third the judge awarded Álvarez the victory by technical knockout.

The audience exploded with joy to the rhythm of mariachi to celebrate with their idol, the now world champion in three different categories.

Nor the difference in height - Fielding is four inches taller than Alvarez - nor the reach of the Englishman's arms were enough to stop a Canelo who assured after the fight that he expected 'Rocky' to try to keep his distance somewhat, but when he saw that he came to attack him closely, he had no mercy. He punished the body of the former WBA super middleman continually with a barrage of hooks that made Fielding suffer, until the referee stopped the fight in the third episode.

The evening of the first fight of the Mexican after signing his multimillion-dollar contract with DAZN was quite a show, thanks in part to the noisy Mexican crowd that filled the building and enjoyed, not only with 'Canelo', but also with Victor Fonseca, Mauricio Herrera and Ryan Garcia, part of the billboard in the Mecca of Boxing and they had the public on their side during their matches.

Only the young Ryan Garcia (17-0, 14 KO's) had a good night and he made the fans enjoy it. With just 20 years, the Californian showed a great poise on the ring, always keeping at a distance Braulio Rodriguez more focused on doing the show with his antics, than in fighting face to face with Garcia.

The Dominican entered the ring with a mask and the rhythm of the song of '' El Chavo del 8 '', and as soon as the first round bell rang, his rare style and defensive posture, he hinted that the fight would not enter the history of this sport. Garcia sent him to the canvas in the first round, but Rodriguez got up laughing and dancing around the ring around Garcia - it was actually a way of trying to escape the beating that the young man of Mexican descent was giving him.

After the fight, Garcia exploded in applause to fans who already waited anxiously for 'Canelo': '' I do not know how to speak Spanish, but I have Mexican blood, and Viva Mexico! ''

It was a special night at Madison, of that there was no doubt, and that's why nobody wanted to miss it. In addition to the boxing legends present as part of the organization or guests, such as Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, Sugar Ray Leonard or Julio César Chávez, among others, the public also had countless celebrities, from J. Balvin and Bad Bunny, up to John McEnroe, Bruce Willis, Rosie Perez, Gina Rodriguez, Prince Royce, Jaime Camil or Miguel Layún.

Among the more than 21,000 spectators present to see Canelo now reigning in super middleweight, there were some fans supporting 'Rocky', who took advantage of the evening to also enjoy the defense of the women's world lightweight title by the Irish charismatic Katie Taylor, who defeated the Finnish Eva Wahlstrom in 10 rounds.
