OyaYansa
A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.7 on Wednesday shook the outskirts of the city of Sapporo, on the island of Hokkaido, northern Japan. The Geological Institute of the United States located the epicenter 67 km southwest of Saporo, near Tomakomai (33.3 km). The tremor occurred at 18:07 GMT (3:07 on Thursday morning local time) and had its center at 39 km depth. The area, located on the edge of the Kuril-Kamchatka Arc, is very prone to seismic activity due to the collision of the Pacific tectonic plate with the small Okhotsk plate.
