How to reset Android to its factory settings so that your phone stays the same as the first day

Many times there is usually a time when we decided to reset our phone. This may be because for months you have been accumulating all kinds of photos, files and applications that you want to undo at a stroke, but also because you want to sell it and do not want to deliver it with any of your personal files.

And for that reason today we are going to explain to you how to restore the factory values in your Android. We will do it in two ways, first with a simple reset that you can do from the options of your mobile, but we will also tell you how to make a deeper reset from the mobile's recovery mode. The second method already warns you that it is a bit more complex.

Of course, before proceeding do not forget to save all the data you want to keep making a backup of them. Once you have saved everything that is worth keeping, you can start with either of these methods.

To guide you step by step we will use a Nexus, which has a clean Android interface and without any modification. As we always remind you, the path to follow in the options may be slightly different depending on your manufacturer, but the main options are always the same.

Restore the factory settings in Android

This first is the simplest method so that the mobile is as if you turn it on for the first time, just buy it. To start, enter the Settings menu of your device, and in the Personal section, click on Backup.

Now, among the options that you will see, look for and click on the option Factory data reset. By doing so you will start the process to delete all the data.

The next two steps are basically confirmation. In the first one you will be given a list of all the personal data that you are going to delete, and to continue you will have to click on Reset phone. Then you will be notified that the action can not be undone, and to confirm and start it you will have to delete everything.

Now, the phone will take a few minutes to reset, and when it does it will automatically restart and show you the same home configuration screen that you will see with any other device that you just bought and have to set up for the first time.

Reset with Recovery mode

Now we go with a method that performs a cleaning something deeper and with which you can get to solve some operational problems. The first step is to start the mobile with the 'Recovery Mode', for which you have to turn it off and then turn it on by holding down a specific combination of keys.

This combination can change depending on the manufacturer, so here we leave you a list with the keys that you have to leave pressed with each one.

Samsung: Volume up + Start + On. In the Galaxy S8 it is Volume Up + Bixby Button + On.
Google Pixel and Nexus: Volume down + On.
Motorola: Volume down + On.
LG: Volume down + On.
Asus: Volume up + On.
Huawei: Volume up + On.
BQ: Volume up + On.
HTC: Go to Settings> Battery, where you have to uncheck the box Fast boot. Then turn off and press Volume down + On.

And finally we have Xiaomi, where the thing is even easier. You have to enter the Updater application, which is in English, click on the top right corner of the icon and, in the menu that will appear, choose the Reboot to Recovery mode option.

It is possible that with some manufacturers the menu you go to is not directly the recovery. If so, you will have to move around the menu by pressing the volume keys, and when the Recovery Mode option appears on the screen, press the Power button to enter that option.

In addition, also in some phones like the Nexus you may see a screen like the one above where you are told there are no commands. In that case, press and hold the power button and the Volume up key to complete the entry to the recovery mode.

The ultimate goal is to reach a screen like the one you have in the capture. This can change depending on the manufacturer, but the options you should go are always the same. First use the volume keys to select the wipe cache partition option and press Power to activate the option and clear the mobile cache.

It will take only a few seconds and it will return you to the same screen. Now choose wipe data / factory reset and hit the power button to activate it. You will go to a screen with several No and only one Yes, which is precisely the one that you have to select with the volume keys and choose with the ignition. Then yes that the process of total reset of the mobile will begin. When finished select reboot system now and the mobile will restart. You will have to reconfigure it from the beginning.
