The Atari have kept their promise and presented their new retro-console gaming console at the Games Developer Conference.

Some of those interested in this console might be disappointed given the statement by Michael Arzt, Atari's general manager:

It might play the original Call of Duty but it may not play the latest Call of Duty, we're just not sure yet ...

If we continue on the same line, CEO Frederic Chesnai strengthens the assertion that Atari VCS will compete more with Nvidia Shield and Nintendo Switch (po[CENSORED]rity) than Xbox One or Playstation 4:

Nvidia Shield and Nintendo Switch ...

The operating system will be based on Linux with a customized Atari interface and, from their point of view, will be closer to a dining room than a console itself. What's under the hood has been presented quite vaguely, but we know for sure that it will have an AMD processor, the amount of RAM and the size of the HDD have not been mentioned. It will integrate its own voice command system and connect bluetooth devices as well as wi-fi to it. You will be able to stream 4k content from Youtube and Netflix. It will have 3 USB ports, one HDMI, one Ethernet port and MicroSD card slot. The price is estimated somewhere between $ 250-300 - not very competitive when we think that a PS 4 Slim of 1 TB is $ 300 in the United States.

Being pretty secretive in information and pre-orders since April, staff have not convinced me that it is worth the console market.

It seems both inside and outside a retro console for the less demanding and until we see the final product, it's hard to recommend someone.

Things can still change at least on the gaming side, as they are currently testing many PC titles, but they seem more interested in indie and streaming titles.

We wish them success and we hope the new console will be a worthy follower for the 1977 model!.
